Explore Cologne’s Christmas markets

by Momentum e-bike for a festive adventure

There are few things quite as twinkly or Christmassy as Cologne’s Christmas markets. The city is home to 17 (and counting) Christmas markets, which open from mid-November and run until early January.

Whether you’re sipping mulled wine (or gluhwein, as it’s known in Germany) or enjoying potato cakes (yep, they’re delicious) as you explore, there are festive things to enjoy all over the city.

Alongside the numerous Christmas markets, there’s also a Christmas Circus, China Lights at the Zoo and Advent concerts to take in.

If you want to be able to see everything Cologne has to offer at Christmas, then exploring it by e-bike is perfect. You’ll be able to traverse the city easily and enjoy everything on offer.

As well as shopping for decorations and last-minute pressies, don’t be the person that forgets to buy a Christmas tree! You can even fit one on our Compakt E+. Don’t believe us? See for yourself!

Compakt E+

Meet Hannah: a model, mum and multitasker on a festive mission with her Compakt E+

The festive season is always a busy time, whether it’s shopping and festive planning, or parties and present wrapping.

No stranger to multitasking, Hannah, a model and busy mum, has a day to herself to get the last of her Christmas shopping, a Christmas tree – and maybe even 10 minutes for a coffee.

Short on time, the Compakt E+ is a great e-bike for city errands: with no parking or traffic to worry about, you can focus on where you want to go and what you need.

But first, coffee! Hannah stopped at Café Bauchgefühl (Berrenrather Street 160, 50937) for a quick pitstop to fuel up before she headed off for her busy day.

Dressing smart for winter rides

Before heading out for a chilly winter’s day ride, be sure to wrap up warm. Layers are important and sweat-wicking layers are even better.

Combine a thick waterproof jacket with a sweater (Christmassy, of course), snuggly scarf and wind- and waterproof gloves; and don’t forget your helmet!

Hannah’s not the only one ready for wintery rides, the Compakt E+ is ready for chilly conditions too. Its bright lights and reflective strips will keep you safe and seen if the wintery weather is a bit gloomy.

The ultimate Christmas tree challenge

Christmas trees are never easy to get home but this year that’s about to change! As functional as it is festive, and adding an element of fun too, our Compakt E+ is a great partner for all your Christmas shopping – including your tree!

Hannah took us to Gut Clarenhof, a Christmas tree farm, where she chose the perfect tree, cut it down and strapped it to her Compakt E+. Who knew such a neat e-bike could carry so much?!

Known for being small but mighty, the Compakt E+ is versatile, powerful and compact enough to store in your apartment. With a front rack and MIK-HD compatible rear rack, it can carry up to 42kg, which is a lot of tree – and a lot of pressies! Just make sure your tree is secure and then off you go.

The ultimate Christmas tree challenge

A festive night in Cologne

With so many Christmas markets to choose from, it’s hard to know where to start. From Cologne’s only vegan Christmas market – Veihnachsmarkt – at Jesus-Christus-Kirche in the east, to the ever-popular Stadtgarten Christmas market in Cologne’s oldest park in the north west, it's hard to pick just one.

If you want to combine boutiques, galleries, cafes and bars with your Christmas markets, then Stadtgarten Christmas in the Belgian Quarter is the one for you. Hannah loves to buy her Christmas decorations here, buying a new one each year for her tree.

Nestled amongst the park’s trees you’ll find 60 festive cabins selling all sorts of unique Christmas gifts. With a cultural programme for all ages too, it’s a lovely place to get in the mood for the upcoming festivities.

She also popped into Het Kollektief (Berrenrather Street 162A), a super-stylish concept store, where she picked up some thoughtful gifts for everyone.

A short walk away at Neumarkt is the Market of Angels (Markt der Engle), with its enchanting fairy lights and stars setting the scene for an evening wander among the stalls. Neumarkt is also home to lots of breweries, so it’s great for another pitstop once the day is done!

Commuting all year round with Compakt E+

City dwellers, we know space is a real premium, so we designed our Compakt E to be the most compact e-bike in our lineup: its unique folding components and integrated design means its only 290mm wide when folded.

It’s not just compact, it’s powerful too. Its motor delivers powerful pedal assistance and its premium 500Wh battery, co-developed with Panasonic, provides a range of 90-180km.

Keeping things compact, we’ve also designed inbuilt safety features as standard. Its ABUS Bordo lock and integrated XPlus battery mean you can lock the bike and battery seamlessly.

Plus, the battery meets the highest (IP6 and IP7) safety standards and features Momentum’s proprietary Battery Management System for maximum efficiency and to prevent overheating.

We know what we’ll be asking for this Christmas!
