Solid workmanship and features and easy handling (can’t be said of all longtail cargo e-bikes!) are just a few of the things Nimms RAD loved when they tested the PakYak E+. When the testing was over, it was lovingly referred to as a ‘fully-fledged member of the family’!
The PakYak E+ is known for being both fun and functional and the guys at Nimms RAD agreed; giving it some serious points for practicality. From the spring-loaded Vario seat post and the lockable trunk, to the easy-to-operate two-legged stand and the integrated chain guard, these features all added to the test rider's and passengers’ comfort and safety.
That’s what everyone’s looking for in a cargo e-bike, right? Nimms RAD hailed the PakYak E+ ‘a robust and easy-to-drive longtail with good-natured driving characteristics in everyday use’, further commenting on the gear spread as ‘well chosen for use in urban, slightly hilly areas’. Sounds like a lot of urban areas we know!
When it comes to maneuvering the bike, Nimms RAD explains that thanks to its 128cm wheelbase, it feels much like a classic e-bike, with its low threshold making it suitable for young and old riders alike.
‘Once you get up to speed with the PakYak E+, you get a harmonious ride even under load, which doesn't stop even on slight ramps,’ enthuses Nimms RAD. This is thanks to its Giant SyncDrive Pro motor, which offers 80 Nm torque and a maximum assist of 360%; this is powered by an integrated 500Wh battery.
Giving major points for the PakYak’s stylish look, we couldn’t agree more that its ‘well-shaped and pleasantly curved tubes of the aluminum frame’ give off ‘relaxed beach cruiser associations and fits perfectly into the hip image of modern cargo bike families’.
The PakYak E+ came into its own when mounted with the Passenger Bar, which can carry up to two kids, with a combined weight of 46kg. With just a little practice, the test rider’s children were happily – and safely – getting on and off the bike themselves, thanks to the secure two-legged kickstand, specifically developed for the PakYak E+, and the passenger footrests.
Once secure onboard, Nimms RAD was happy to report that ‘vibrations and impacts are noticeably absorbed by the wide, well-supported tires and the stiff frame and aren’t passed on to the passengers’.
The tester was also impressed by the safety of the ‘grippy, reliable brakes and the good steaming behavior of the tires’. ‘Momentum didn't skimp on the brakes either and gave the PakYak E+ four-piston disc brakes from Tektro on the front and rear wheels,’ Nimms RAD explained. ‘They pack a punch and can be operated comfortably and dosed easily thanks to the generous levers. The voluminous Maxxis tires also contribute to driving comfort and driving safety.’
The PakYak’s versatility was also highlighted: ‘it can be ridden very slowly and in a controlled manner, which is by no means the case for every type of cargo bike’.
We’re pleased to report that our PakYak E+ ticks a lot of boxes for Nimms RAD. ‘I know it sounds trite, but overall the features of the Momentum PakYak E+ can be described as rock-solid'.
